How to clean your candle vessel?

CLEANING YOUR VESSEL

We know the thought of cleaning your own vessel may seems a bit overwhelming at first. We hope these two cleaning tricks will help make it a quick and accessible part of your low-waste and sustainable lifestyle. All you need is a kitchen!

OPTION 1 - UTILIZE BOILING WATER

Supplies Needed: Boiling Water, Butter Knife/Spoon, Soap, Sponge

When your candle vessel has burned through the final remnants of the wick, it will leave a small layer of wax at the bottom of the jar where the wick’s stand is. This is the wax you’re going to try to remove. Simply heat up a kettle of boiling water and pour the water into the candle vessel. Let the water sit in the vessel until it cools completely. This will cause the wax to melt and float to the surface when cooled. When the water has cooled, remove the wax on the top of the vessel. Strain the water. Finally, clean out the vessel with warm, soapy water and a sponge. You will also want to ensure the sticker on the base of the vessel is removed as well. Use warm, soapy water and a sponge for this.

OPTION 2 - UTILIZE YOUR FREEZER

Supplies Needed: Freezer, Butter Knife/Spoon, Soap, Sponge

When your candle vessel has burned through the final remnant of the wick, it will leave a small layer of wax pooling up to where the wick’s stand is. This is the wax you’re going to need to remove. When wax freezes, it hardens and shrinks away from the vessel it’s within. Your candle should sit in the freezer for 2-3 hours before working with it. When it’s done freezing, the wax will either pop out naturally or will be easily broken up with pressure of a butter knife or spoon. Gently, work towards removing all wax and then clean out with warm, soapy water and a sponge. You will also want to ensure the sticker on the base of the vessel is removed as well. Use warm, soapy water and a sponge for this.

NOTE:

The wax is a quick and easily melted wax. When using hot water the wax melt away easily.
